Born in Montréal, Québec, Raphaëlle Séguin studied arts at Lionel-Groulx College and graduated in design at Cégep du Vieux-Montréal. Seguin finds that the visual arts and graphic design is the most effective way to communicate to others. Painting is a visceral need for her which allows her total surrender into a world where boundaries and constraints don’t exist. Her approach is in constant evolution and she is always looking to bring her work further.
Ever since she was young, Séguin has enjoyed doodling, sculpting, and painting. Starting with the people in her life and immediate surroundings, she found a fascination with faces. Therefore, much of her artwork is focused around portraits and personality. Seguin uses the faces she is inspired by and creates characters using various shapes, volumes, and colors to give each piece an original universe and one of a kind personality. Each piece incorporates entertaining and seemingly silly elements when it may appear to have more serious features. Her artwork is a breath of fresh air and has a brightness that makes viewers smile.
